Cyclone Ditwah Relief Project
In late 2025, Sri Lanka faced one of its most devastating natural disasters following Cyclone Ditwah. Round Table Sri Lanka immediately activated its national relief protocol under the project titled “Project Rise Up.”
The scale of devastation included over 2.3 million people affected and 648 confirmed fatalities. RTSL transitioned from immediate emergency response to a structured LKR 150 million master plan focused on long term resilience.
Key achievements to date include:
18,000 plus ration packs delivered across Mawanella, Deltota and the North Western Province
2,500 plus Back to School kits distributed to support children’s educational continuity
LKR 21 million in international aid secured through partnerships with Round Table India and P and G India
400 plus patients treated and 100 hospital mattresses donated
5,000 plus cooked meals served in transit camps
A 350 kilometre convoy mission completed within 26hours and completion of the Kotmale airlift
Geographic reach has included Thambuththegama, Kala Oya, Nochchiyagama, Kandakuliya, Kuliyapitiya and Puttalam, ensuring that even remote and landslide isolated communities received assistance
Governance and accountability remain central to the project.
RTSL implemented:
A Two Deep Rule requiring at least two Core Team members to validate strategic decisions
A Three Quote Rule mandating competitive bidding for purchases above LKR 50,000
Independent monitoring and evaluation with random spot checks on 10 percent of distribution sites
With Phase 1 fully completed, RTSL has now moved into long term recovery, including the planned distribution of Back to Home kits to 3,000 families as part of Phase 3 expansion
